Coordination is needed due to the contribution to the project of research from different disciplines in which the research teams making up the two subprojects work, with a predominance of the geographical approach.

SUBPROJECT 1:

TITLE: Chronic Emergencies and Ecological Transformation in Touristified Litoral Spaces.

Subproject 1 (SP1) team has specialists in Geography, Tourism, Biology, Ecological Economics, Political Ecology, Geomorphology, Gender, Housing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

SP1 focuses on the study of the social metabolism of tourism, coastal conservation, tourism work, management of the public use of natural spaces, socio-economic inequality and its impact in terms of gender, territorial planning and the corporate power of hotel chains.

The research methodology of SP1 consists of the design and establishment of biophysical indicators of social metabolism, social inequality, hotels’ development and work with a gender approach, GIS mapping and the study of public plans and policies.

Geographical areas of SP1 are the Costa Brava and Costa Blanca and the archipelagos (Balearic and Canary Islands. Under both subprojects, studies of the new tourist peripheries linked to these areas as a result of the internationalization of Spanish hotel chains (especially in Latin America and the Caribbean) will be also carried out.

TITLE: Chronic Emergencies and Socio-Legislative Transformation in Touristified Litoral Spaces.

Subproject 2 (SP2) team includes specialists in Geography, Tourism, Philosophy of Law and Law, Social Anthropology and Urban Planning. Both teams are coordinated under the vision of Critical Geography for the projection of territorial and tourism planning scenarios.

SP2 delves into the study of social reactions, adaptations of the territorial and tourism legislative framework, socioecological justice, and the design of socioecological transformation scenarios from the perspective of stakeholders.

The research methodology of SP2 is based on participatory action-research methodology, analysis of legislation, geolocalized Big Data, emotional responses (through encephalography), discourse and networks and scenario design.

Geographical areas of SP2 are the Costa del Sol, Costa Cálida, Doñana and Costa de la Luz. Under both subprojects, studies of the new tourist peripheries linked to these areas as a result of the internationalization of Spanish hotel chains (especially in Latin America and the Caribbean) will be also carried out.
